The Light of the World

Nothing compares with truth when it is spoken in love. Truth is void of opinion. Truth is only loyal to truth. Truth breaks the bondage of lies. Truth cannot be mixed with philosophy or opinion and remain truth. Truth stands alone. Truth is the Word of God and truth is light.

John, Chapter 8, Verse 12

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

GOD SAID in His Word that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and that only through Jesus can light, truth and eternal life be found.

MAN SAID: Jesus Christ was just another human being who had evolved from nothing. He was a great prophet or teacher, but was not virgin born, did not rise from the dead, and certainly did not ascend into heaven. The concept of Him being the light of the world is absurd.

Now, THE RECORD: On the first day of Creation, God spoke, as recorded in Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 3:

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Before God created a sun—which was not until the fourth day—there was light and God called the light day. You might be surprised to know that scientific thought has now come to the conclusion that there was radiant light before the sun. Six thousand years before man fell upon such an idea, God's Word said it was so. In an article titled "The Origin of the Universe," published in American Scientist, written by Victor Weisskopf, the following statement was made:

Indeed, the Judeo-Christian tradition describes the beginning of the world in a way that is surprisingly similar to the scientific model. Previously it seemed scientifically unsound to have light created before the sun. The present scientific view does indeed assume the early universe to be filled with various kinds of radiation long before the sun was created.

The Bible consistently associates light with God. James, Chapter 1, Verse 17:

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

The God of the Bible is called "the Father of Lights" and Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, is known as "the True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." (John, Chapter 1, Verse 9).

The Word of God declares that the sun is "ashamed in the presence of the LORD" (Isaiah Chapter 24, Verse 23), and when He returns to this earth at the great battle of Armageddon (Revelation Chapter 16, Verse 16) the "wicked shall be consumed by the brightness of his coming" (II Thessalonians, Chapter 2, Verse 8).

The Lord Jesus Christ is also known in Scriptures as the "Day Star" (II Peter, Chapter 1, Verse 19), and "the Bright and Morning Star" (Revelation Chapter 22, Verse 16). After God destroys this wicked world with a great noise and a fervent heat (II Peter, Chapter 3, Verse 10), He then creates a new Heaven and a new Earth to which the New Jerusalem descends out of the third Heaven. This 1,500-cubical-mile city will have no need for the sun because the Father and the Son shall be the light thereof.

Revelation, Chapter 21, Verse 23:

And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

The world begins without the sun, and eternity in the New Jerusalem ends without the need for the sun. Jesus is known in the Bible as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the light of the world.

When man repents of his sins, believes upon the Lord Jesus Christ and surrenders himself unto all his commandments, he becomes born again—born a second time, now as a son or daughter of God. He becomes a partaker of the True Light. God said that we sat in darkness but then saw a great light.

Matthew, Chapter 4, Verse 16:

The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

The followers of Christ have marched forth in His name armed with commandments of love and have turned the world upside down. Organizations working in the name of God's precious son Jesus have fed more hungry, housed and clothed more poor, ministered to more sick, visited more prisoners and educated more illiterate than all the world's other organizations combined. In His name, more broken hearts have been mended, more broken homes restored, more hope given to the hopeless, more widows and orphans cared for than by any other. In His name, untold multitudes of alcoholics and drug addicts have been delivered and restored to their households. Prostitutes have been redeemed and wayward children restored to their families. In Jesus’ name, more hospitals have been commissioned, more colleges and universities established, more missionaries funded and dispatched, and more charitable organizations chartered than by any other name. Many years ago an anonymous writer clearly summed up this matter in this following statement:

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. Until He was thirty, He worked in a carpenter's shop and then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. He wrote no books. He held no office. He never owned a home. He was never in a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did any of the things that usually accompany greatness. The authorities condemned His teachings. His friends deserted Him. One betrayed Him to His enemies for a paltry sum. One denied Him. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed on a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He owned on earth: His coat. When He was dead He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone, yet today He is the crowning glory of the human race, the adored leader of hundreds of millions of the earth's inhabitants. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built, all the parliaments that ever sat and all the rulers that ever reigned—put together—have not affected the life of man upon this earth so profoundly as that One Solitary Life.

GOD SAID that Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

MAN SAID that's absurd.
