Mental/Spiritual Disorders

Article#: 1222

GodSaidManSaid received the following e-mail from a sister in Christ:

I have been diagnosed as bipolar. I am a Christian and I love the Lord Jesus Christ. I have some confusion though. How do you know the difference between mental issues and demonic bondage? I know that upon being saved the Holy Spirit is within me. I have opened doors in my life through rebellion many times, and I don’t understand if my illness is really just that — mental illness or am I oppressed demonically, and it’s manifesting as a generational curse or just a genetic flaw because of sin?  [End of quote]

Mental/spiritual problems are a global pandemic and the issues that cause the problems are plentiful. The problems will increase even unto the end. But such is the case of a fallen world. To the redeemed who battle such darkness, it is imperative to remember and act upon Mark 11:22-26:

22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

It is imperative to remember Matthew 17:15-21:

15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

It is imperative to remember Romans 8:26-27:

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

James 5:13-16:

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

It is imperative to remember and act upon Mark 16:17-18:

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Take note of the absolutes of the promises of God. In them is no shadow of turning.

The supernatural power unleashed by the childlike faith of a separated saint is necessary to overcome spiritual darkness regardless of its form. The Word of God must be given complete authority. In Psalms 68:1, it reads:

...Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered...

I must allow God to rise and scatter the enemies that challenge the authority of God’s Word in my life.

A process begins the day one is born again that is akin to the process that begins at natural birth. At inception, the baby begins to develop. The cognizant brain is created, in many ways as a blank slate — an unprogrammed computer — and operating information is gradually entered. When one is born again, he or she receives through Christ Jesus a new Father, a new life, a new name, a new purpose, a new self awareness, and a new destiny. But as with natural birth, the spiritual mind must be developed. Putting on the mind of Christ begins at born-again. Romans 12:2:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The mind of Christ is the Word of God.

At this place called born-again, all previous thoughts are basically re-thought, but this time they are thought through the filter of the Holy Ghost. II Corinthians 10:4-5:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

All thoughts contrary to the Word of God must be rejected and replaced. It is a renewal process. II Corinthians 5:17:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

There is a specific supernatural power gained by the born-again to function in this fallen world. Three initial milestones set the course:

(1.) The born-again experience

(2.) Water baptism

(3.) Baptism in the Holy Ghost

(Note: #2 and #3 are not necessarily in that order.)

The very first commandment given to the church by Christ as he left the earth was for the believers not to leave Jerusalem until they were baptized with the Holy Ghost. Of the Holy Ghost, Jesus said in Acts 1:8:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The baptism in the Holy Ghost is critical. Remember, this was Christ’s first commandment as he left the earth to sit on the Right hand of the Father. To our dear saint who e-mailed, and to all visiting this message, if you have not yet received the baptism of the Holy Ghost as they did on the day of Pentecost where they spoke in other tongues, then go to the Holy Ghost series listed below and receive it now. God spoke all things into existence out of that which is invisible with His words of knowledge and wisdom. Everything is constructed most literally out of words. Several times in the present 516 features, which are archived in text and streaming audio on GodSaidManSaid, you will find the account of a conversation I once had with a skeptic. It went basically like this: I was attending a little league baseball game that one of my sons was participating in. I was speaking to another parent at the event and the subject of the Bible arose. The parent bluntly rejected the scriptures and said, "They are just words," (as though words were of no effect). I asked him what he would say if I could prove to him that everything was most literally made out of words. He responded, "Just try it." I asked how he had arrived at the game. He said he had driven his car. I suggested we use his car as the case in point and I laid out the following example:

Well over a hundred years ago, a man was riding down the dirt road in his old, horse-drawn buckboard. It was hot and humid. Flying insects were pestering him. It would take him all day to travel the distance we could do today in our automobiles in 20 minutes. While, watching the tail-end of his old horse trudging along, he thought (silent words), "Boy, I’d love to have a horseless carriage." When he got home he got out a pencil and tablet and wrote down his plan (written words) to make a horseless carriage.

I asked my friend what we had so far. He rightly answered, "Words." Next, the inventor went out into the field and dug up iron ore, etc., which was spoken into existence out of that which is invisible by God’s words. He smelted it down into steel and, voila! A horseless carriage.

I then asked my skeptical friend, "What is a car made out of?"

He correctly answered, "Words!"

Everything is made of words — God’s words — and most certainly your body is also. Scientists studying human DNA were awestruck when they discovered that it operated using a four- letter alphabet that functioned in sentences, paragraphs, chapters, and volumes — just words. Some secular scientists even dubbed it the book of life. Scientists studying intercellular function were awestruck when they discovered that each microscopic cell housed a photon-emitting laser by which it communicates with the bodies of other cells. They called it the language of light. It should then be no surprise that neurologists, medical doctors, and psychologists are discovering the phenomenal power of words, even in the curing and prevention of physical diseases.

To the students of the scriptures, it then should be no surprise of the scriptures’ shocking statements concerning the allness of words. An example is Proverbs 18:20-21:

20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Example — Romans 10:10:

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Example — John 1:1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Salvation and healing are tandem ministries and they both work by the same formula. Jesus sent forth his disciples, instructing them to preach the gospel and heal the sick. Healing and deliverance are accomplished by the Word of God. Just as salvation comes by faith in Christ Jesus, whose name in Revelation is "The Word of God," and also by the confession of the believer’s mouth, so it is with healing and deliverance of every sort.

(1.) I must believe upon the authority and promise of God’s Words. And,

(2.) I must confess with my mouth.

Word therapy is the order of the day for all believers. The application of words is everything. GodSaidManSaid uses a 3x5 index card system to address particular needs. We call them "Gos- pills" and they should be taken regularly. For myself, I take a 3x5 card and write a verse on it that addresses my particular need. Three or four cards are typical. For my own situation, each time I touch my car keys I read the cards silently or out loud. Consequently, I read the cards several times a day. These cards have a very dramatic and life-changing effect. For our e-mailer, we would suggest the following for her 3x5 index cards:

Card 1 — Isaiah 53:5:

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Card 2 — II Timothy 1:7:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Card 3 — James 4:7:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Card 4 — Romans 8:28:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
